The concept of this scheme follows the form of the traditional Scottish architecture which dates back to the iron ages. This form has a strong link to Scottish culture, being recognisable to a wider audience and not just a focus on the specific Doric community, which aims to bring a wider range of visitors to the site.
The scheme is derived from three stages in the gradual decay of the structure. The first, as it was when first built, a solid mass with little openings. The second mass portrays the semi-destructed broch which loses its solid form and allows light to enter. Finally, the third which is just the suggestion of what was, some walls remain but the overall form is left open.
